The author of Jesus is Better Than Porn decided to use a pen name so to better give an open and very honest outlook on how he overcame his porn addiction.
The Good
- Short, engaging chapters
- Easy to read a chapter or two and reflect.
- At each chapters end there are points or ponder/discussion group questions.
- Very personable and honest with his struggle with porn.
- Also honest with how much it affected his wife.
- Laser focus on Christ, especially later on in the book.
- “That’s why you and I must fix your eyes on Jesus. (Hebrews 12.2) This world has nothing to offer us. As the apostle Paul wrote to believers in Philippi: But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him.’ Philippians 3. 7,8 Jesus isn’t just better than porn. Jesus is the best!” – Hugh Houston
- A lot of Biblical references
The Bad
- Grammar
- One example is shown above in the Hugh Houston quote. The sentence should be: “That’s why you and I must fix our eyes…”
The Unsure*
- N/A
*My opinion: what I didn’t care for or do not prefer. This will not lower a rating unless it overly distracts from the story.
Everyone should read this book, Jesus is Better Than Porn, to see the destructive nature of a hidden sin like porn and how God (and an active willing participant) can find a new life.
