I enjoyed this historical fiction book Encounters of the Heart which centers on the end of Jesus’s life on Earth.
The Good
- Interesting to wonder how people around Jesus felt and acted.
- A good look at, for example, “how would someone like Mary Magdalene tell her story?”
- Thoughtful stories which do not over explain or add to Biblical truths
- Good story telling
- Good use of a reflection section
- Helpful for personal application
- Easy read but with a lot of depth (details) added to the stories
- How did the followers of Christ handle these different experiences (like Christ’s crucifixion) or act?
The Bad
- N/A
The Unsure*
- N/A
*My opinion: what I didn’t care for or do not prefer. This will not lower a rating unless it overly distracts from the story.
I can’t recall reading a Biblical historical fiction which tries its best to stay true to the Bible but uses reflection notes to personalize the stories. I highly recommend Encounters of the Heart if you enjoy historical fiction.
